By Lucasfilm Ahsoka the series introduced fans to an interesting new character in the Star Wars universe with Baylan Skoll, and the character was portrayed fantastically Ray Stevenson.
There was a really interesting and important character arc in the series, and the first season finale, “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord,” teased what could be an incredible ongoing journey for the character.
After Stevenson’s sad passing, fans wondered how Dave Filoni and the creative team would continue the story without Stevenson. Some fans assumed they would simply recast the character, and it looks like Lucasfilm has started that process.
According to what Daniel Richtman reported, a “white man in his 50s/60s” is currently being sought to fill the role.
Skoll is an evil former Jedi, and Ahsoka’s finale saw the character standing on the ruins of a mountain-sized sculpture of the Mortis gods. This is a hint that he may have a role in unleashing Abeloth the Bringer of Chaos.
Speaking previously about a possible Skoll recast, Filoni said, “Obviously, there’s a story there. We’re in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I’m glad the conversation is about Ray and how awesome he was.
“I would have little mini-debates with him and say, ‘Ray, you’re the bad guy here.’ And he’d say, ‘I don’t think so.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t think so, but that’s how it is.’
“I like that you’re playing like you’re not.” Which is exactly how Baylan thinks.”
It will be interesting to see who Lucasfilm ends up casting as Baylan Skoll. Whoever it is, he has some big shoes to fill because Stevenson has truly made this character his own.
