Ice Cube says FRIDAY 4 has “some success at Warner Bros.” and that they are “working on it”

Ice cube he worked hard to try to get a fourth Friday he made the film and it was a frustrating experience for him. The actor tried to get the rights to the property back from Warner Bros. so he could make the film.

Now it looks like he’s working with WB and they’re in the process of making something happen. The actor shared the recent update during an appearance on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show “Flavor of the Week.”

Cube said: “We’re working on it. We finally got some traction with Warner Bros. They have new leadership, my friend Mike De Luca, who was at New Line when I started, when I did the first Friday AND Players club AND All about the Benjamins.

“Mike De Luca was there… so now he runs Warner Bros. And he and my friend Michael Gruber were like, ‘Hey, what the fuck is going on?’ Friday? Man, let’s get this shit back online.’”

Ice Cube has been trying to get another Friday movie off the ground for years, so it looks like there’s a chance it’ll finally happen.

When previously talking about the project, we refer to it as Last FridayCube said, “I don’t know. Warner Bros. is weird right now. I don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know what they’re doing.

“We would love to have him back. I think the time will be near when we will recover it. So, we’re either going to wait for that moment, or we’re going to keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It’s my film, but they control the distribution.”

He added: “I’m not going to make shit up for this. Fuck no. They have to give it to me and they’ll make money. I’m not going to pay for my stuff, that’s stupid”. They need to do the right thing, give it to us, turn it into more money and make the fans happy… We can do a lot with this.”

Cube wrote a pair of sequels for Friday that the studio initially rejected. When he explained why, he said, “They were like, ‘Hey, we don’t want Craig and Day Day in prison,’ because Craig and Day Day went to prison for selling weed before it was legal.”

Then he added, “That shit is funny. After they turned it down, they made all these movies about going to prison. Orange Is the New Black, Get Hard, so I was like, ‘Man, see, you’re all fucked.’ “. lift me up.””

Cube’s second script was about “the neighborhood kids fighting with the neighborhood OGs, and Craig has to come back and squash all that. Because Smokey is [Tucker’s] the son is the new Deebo [Tommy Lister Jr.]and he went crazy.”

Regarding that, Cube said WB “stumbled. They fucked around, and then John Witherspoon [who played Craig’s father, Willie Jones] past, [Lister Jr.] past, [Ezal actor A.J. Johnson] past. There are many characters who would return to the neighborhood. They really screwed up.”

It is unknown which version of Last Friday will develop. It could be one of these or it could be something completely different. We’ll just have to wait and see.
