BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse Comics and Hasbro have revealed a new crossover comic one-shot that will see the Power Rangers team up with Usagi Yojimbo.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo will arrive to celebrate Stan Sakai’s 40th anniversary Usagi Yojimbo.
The comic was written by a veteran Power Rangers scribe Ryan Parrott, illustrated by Shawn Daley (Orc), and colored by James Fenner (The Narrator: Jim Henson’s Shapeshifters), the crossover between Ronin Rabbit and everyone’s favorite teen characters, hits shelves in September 2024.
In the story, “During a routine attack by Rita Repulsa, the Rangers’ morphers do something unexpected…throwing them back to the Edo era of Japan!
“Upon arriving at their historic destination, the mysterious Ogasawara asks the Rangers for help. But the enemy they face is not what they expected… and our band of heroes will have to face a painful revelation if they are to save the day and return home.”
Sakai said in a statement: “I’m really excited about Usagi’s crossover with Power Rangers. This is the first time Usagi has teamed up with real superheroes (who don’t have shells)! It’s a great story with great art!”
Parrott added: “I think one of the most exciting elements of comics is the unexpected crossover, so when BOOM! Studios asked me if I’d be interested in pairing the two Morphin’ mighty Power Rangers with Usagi YojimboI didn’t hesitate.
“I’ve been a fan of Stan Sakai’s work and the epic story he told my entire life, so it was a real honor to be able to step into that world and play with those characters. Plus, the moment I saw Shawn Daley’s artwork, I knew it had the potential to be an insanely fun, one-of-a-kind adventure that I hope both Ranger and Samurai fans will enjoy.
This epic, oversized issue will feature a main cover by Taurin Clarke (Morphin’ mighty Power Rangers), along with variant covers by the incomparable Stan Sakai with colors by Emi Fujii, Jared Cullum (Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Returns) and Takeshi Miyazawa (Mech Cadets)!
Artist Shawn Daley said: “Some characters seem destined to cross paths and I didn’t realize how much I needed this team until I was asked to help bring them to life. Stan Sakai’s legendary work was a formative introduction to comics for me, and as a lifelong fan of Morphin’ mighty Power Rangersthe combination hits hard.
“This is largely part of Ryan’s incredibly funny script, which was a privilege to draw. I was also able to use my original Power Rangers figures as reference material: an artist’s dream come true!”
The comic will be available on September 25, 2024.
