A24 has released the trailer for a wicked new horror thriller titled The front roomand it seems to tell the twisted story of a mother-in-law from hell.
The front room is about a young, newly pregnant couple who are forced to take in a sick and separated stepmother. “The incomparable Brandy returns to horror in a legendary face-off against Kathryn Hunterthe most evil mother-in-law of all.”
The synopsis reads: “Everything goes to hell for newly pregnant Belinda (Brandy) after her mother-in-law (Hunter) moves out. As the evil host tries to get its claws on the child, Belinda has to draw the line somewhere. ..”
As you’ll see, things quickly get pretty dark and disturbing. I wonder if it’s based on a true story! From my experience, it wouldn’t surprise me if it were.
The front room is written and directed by Max Eggers (co-author of The lighthouse) AND Sam Eggers. They are the director’s brothers Roberto Eggers (The Witch, The lighthouse, The Norman, Nosferatu), and worked with him on some of those films.
The film is also the protagonist Andrea Burnap AND Neal Huff. It will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
