Terry Matalasthe showrunner behind the final season of Star Trek: Picardis preparing to write the screenplay for a remake of the 1985 cult science fiction film My enemy for 20th Century Studies.
My enemy it’s an amazing movie and it was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and acted Dennis Quaid AND Louis Gossett Jr.. Set in the late 21st century, the story follows two soldiers from warring species: Willis Davidge, a human, and Jeriba “Jerry” Shigan, a Drac.
After crash-landing on a desolate alien planet, the two must overcome their mutual distrust and learn to cooperate to survive. As they struggle against the planet’s harsh environment and hostile creatures, Davidge and Jerry develop an unexpected friendship.
Their bond is further strengthened when Davidge helps Jerry in the birth of his son, a process that ultimately leads to Jerry’s death. Davidge strives to raise the child, bridging the gap between their species and exemplifying themes of unity and understanding amidst conflict.
If you’ve never seen the original film, you should check it out! It was based on a short story by Barry B. Longyearand was originally published in Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine in 1979.
It also won the Nebula Award for Best Short Story that year. It was followed by two sequels and finally released as a titled trilogy The enemy’s cards.
The remake doesn’t have a producer or director yet, but if 20th Century Studios is moving forward with this remake, Matalas is a good start to kick off the project.
Matalas was recently acquired by Marvel Studios to develop the Vision series.
