EVIL DEAD RISE Director Lee Cronin to Direct New Horror Film for Blumhouse and Atomic Monster

Lee Croninthe director behind Dead evil riseswill direct and write a new horror film set at Atomic Monster, Blumhouse and New Line.

The film is greenlit and this is the first collaboration between the recently merged production companies. James Wan AND Jason Blum will produce the film.

There are no plot details to share, but the film will be released on April 17, 2026. The makers have also teased what will happen.

Cronin said in a statement: “I’m super excited to reunite my gang of wacky Doppelgängers to join forces with the horror overlords of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

“Collaborating with Jason, James and the wonderful teams at these two historic and hugely successful organizations is what perfect nightmares are made of. Returning to New Line Cinema and my wonderful partners is the icing on the cake.

“I have something terribly funny and terrifying up my sleeve, and I can’t wait to bring it to the big screen on April 17, 2026.”

Wan said: “Lee is a talented director in the world of horror, whose storytelling has electrified audiences. We are thrilled to collaborate with him on this project and take viewers on an incredibly fun journey.”

Blum added: “Lee’s work is always fresh and surprising and has an intriguing, modern approach to something quite ancient that I think audiences will love.

“This also marks an exciting series of firsts for us: the first time Atomic Monster and Blumhouse have worked with Lee and our first joint project for Warner Bros. We can’t wait to get started.”

I note that last year Cronin said his next film would be Defrost. I have no idea if this is the same project, but we have some details about it,

The film is set years after “the polar ice caps have melted and sea levels have risen, and the story” centers on a group of survivors at sea looking for a new home. Their prayers are answered with the discovery of a habitable city, which it is, until they encounter a new nightmare living just beneath the surface of the water.

I’m very curious to see this film and I’m interested in learning more. We will keep you updated as information becomes available.
