The Vilar de Mouros Festival opened on Tuesday in northern Portugal for its first five-day edition, bringing acts including Yungblud to the stage.
Organisers expect total attendance at the event in the village of Vilar de Mouros to surpass the 50,000 music fans who attended last year's festival.
The decision to expand the festival to five days for the first time was made to accommodate British singer Yungblud, who was only available to perform in Portugal on 18 August.
Yungblud, the English alternative rock singer known for his high-energy performances, takes the main stage at midnight on opening night. The first day of music also features performances by Tom A. Smith at 5:15 pm, The Molotovs at 6:25 pm, Lambrini Girls at 7:45 pm, British industrial music group Cabaret Voltaire at 9:15 pm, and President at 10:45 pm.
Headlining Acts and Daily Lineup
The lineup across the five days includes a wide array of rock, punk, and alternative artists, featuring Dropkick Murphys, Kasabian, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Body Count featuring Ice-T, Kaiser Chiefs, Kaleo, President, The Hives, Skindred, Cabaret Voltaire, and Ugly Kid Joe.
American singer-songwriter Ben Harper, performing with backing band The Innocent Criminals, plays on Friday, 21 August. Friday's schedule opens with Monstro at 5:00 pm, followed by Sydney Ross Mitchell at 6:25 pm, Triggerfinger at 7:45 pm, War at 9:15 pm, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals at 10:45 pm, and Icelandic rock band Kaleo at 12:30 am.
English indie rock band Kasabian headline Thursday night's programme, taking the stage at 12:30 am following sets from Leeds rock group Kaiser Chiefs at 10:45 pm and Kula Shaker at 9:15 pm. Earlier performances on 20 August begin with The Covasettes at 5:00 pm, The Lilacs at 6:15 pm, and The Lathums at 7:45 pm.
Wednesday, 19 August, features American hard rock band Ugly Kid Joe performing at 9:30 pm, following sets by Grade 2 at 5:15 pm, Fishbone at 6:30 pm, and Less Than Jake at 8:00 pm. Swedish garage rock band The Hives perform at 11:00 pm before Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys close the night at 12:45 am.
The final day on Saturday, 22 August, opens at 5:00 pm with the winner of the "António Barge" band competition. The evening continues with Travo at 6:15 pm, former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone at 7:45 pm, and Rudeboy featuring DJ DNA playing the music of Urban Dance Squad at 9:15 pm. Heavy metal group Body Count featuring Ice-T performs at 10:45 pm before Welsh reggae metal band Skindred closes the festival at 12:30 am.
Festival Facilities and Guest Services
Beyond the music stages, the venue features a dining area with multiple bars serving beer, wine, cocktails, spirits, water, juices, and energy drinks, alongside food trucks offering diverse options including vegan meals.
Organisers have established dedicated facilities for visitors with reduced mobility, including accessible toilets. Guests requiring access should contact a festival team member at the ticket office upon arrival, and each registered guest may bring one companion.
On-site amenities include Multibanco cash machines, a permanent hospital with medical care staff, mobile medical support patrols, a security and prevention office, and a lost and found space. Attendees also have access to phone charging stations, official festival and artist merchandise sales, and both porcelain and festival-model toilets.
A designated leisure area inside the grounds offers piercings, tattoos, glitter make-up, mandala art, additional bars, and a market.
Travel Information and Ticket Prices
Festival organisers advise attendees to travel using public transportation, such as trains or buses stopping at nearby Caminha. A free shuttle bus runs directly between Caminha station and the festival venue without intermediate stops.
Admission is free for children up to six years old inclusive on the festival's start date of 18 August. Single-day tickets cost €55.00, a four-day pass for 19 through 22 August costs €130.00, and a full five-day pass covering 18 through 22 August costs €160.00.
