Dave Filoni on future STAR WARS projects – “Whatever we do, it has to be done really well”

Creative Director of Lucasfilm Dave Filoni recently spoke about the future of Star Wars and the projects they develop.

Like the new series The Acolyte is dividing fans and currently has a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Filoni says whatever future projects are, they need to be “done really well.” Filoni also talks about making us more mature Star Wars projects.

During the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Filoni said: “The bottom line is: whatever we do, it has to be really well done. When you look at something that’s considered different, like Andor, it’s so well done, and Tony [Gilroy] and his team do such phenomenal work, that I think there’s an audience for it.

He continued: “I think even with that audience, though, I still want to strike the imagination of kids out there so they can grow up and appreciate those things. It’s almost as if your taste in food, your taste in cinema and images changes as you get older.”

Filoni offered a personal example, saying, “My dad made me watch Seven Samurai when I was a kid because he knew I liked Star Wars and he knew George [Lucas] worked with Kurosawa.

He added: “I’m not going to sit there and pretend I understood any of this when I was little… but as you get older, you go, ‘Oh my God, it’s right there,’ and it hits you.” in face. You appreciate it in a different way.

“I think that [Star Wars] it includes all kinds of styles and the creativity of the particular story that the guide is the most important thing. And they should do something that is within their comfort zone.”

Many fans believed that Filoni would be able to steer the Star Wars franchise in the right direction, now we’ll see if he will actually be able to produce more quality Star Wars projects. It’s been a fitful success since Disney took over.
