Madman Films has released a trailer for a fantastic looking stop-motion animated film titled Memory of a snail.
The film is described as “a moving, heartfelt and hilarious chronicle of the life of an outsider who finds her security and silver linings in the confusion of everyday life.”
Set in 1970s Australia, “Grace’s life is troubled by misfortune and loss. After her mother dies during pregnancy, she and her twin brother, Gilbert, are raised by their paraplegic, alcoholic former juggler father, Percy. Despite a life full of love, tragedy strikes when Percy dies in his sleep. The siblings are separated and pushed into different homes to grow up.
“Grace Pudel is a lonely misfit with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails and an intense love of books. At a young age, when Grace is separated from her fire-breathing twin brother Gilbert, she falls into a spiral of anxiety and heartache. Despite a series continuous hardship, inspiration and hope emerge when he forms a lasting friendship with an eccentric elderly woman named Pinky, full of determination and will to live.
The film was directed by an Australian animation director Adam Elliotwho won an Oscar in 2004 for his short film Harvie Krumpet. He also made the stop-motion film Maria and Massimo.
The voice cast includes Jacki Weaver, Eric Bana, Sarah Snook, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Domenico Pinon, Magda Szubanskiwith Nick Grotta.
The film will be released in Australia in October this year. No US release has been announced.
