We have a new photo to share with you as a director Fede Alvarez’S Alien: Romulusand in a recent interview with Empire, the director offered some insight into the film.
Álvarez first explained that his film is a hybrid of Alien AND Aliens saying, “Asking an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question. So I thought, ‘How can I do both?'”
He went on to offer an example, saying, “There’s a moment where the characters walk through familiar Nostromo areas. Then they go through that building and to the other side: boom! You’re in a hallway that looks like Hadley’s Hope [from Aliens].”
The director previously explained that he worked closely with James Cameron AND Ridley Scott during the development of this film, so it makes sense that the film contains a good mix of these two films.
He went on to offer some additional details about the story regarding Cailee SpaenyIt’s rain and David Jonsson as his android adoptive brother Andy, who appears in the new photo above.
Álvarez said: “When his father was dying, he left Andy as a kind of caretaker. But Andy is a little damaged and is an older model. So more than a surrogate father, he becomes a younger brother to her.
He continued, “That was always the heart of the story: this relationship between the two… and how that relationship develops once the shit hits the fan.”
Alien: Romulus follows a “group of young people in a distant world who find themselves confronted with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Alvarez’s initial pitch was said to be a “really good story with a lot of characters you’ve never seen before”. The film will also be terrifying as it leans into the horror aspect of the franchise. That’s why I’m excited!
The story is set between Ridley Scott’s Alien and Cameron’s Aliens and the same team he worked on Aliens he returned to work on this film.
The film is also the protagonist Isabela Mercedewhich he also joins Archie Renaux (Shadow and bones), Spike Fearn (After sun) and newcomer Aileen Wu.
Alvarez will direct from his script written by Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott he is also a producer of the film along with Michael Pruss (The Boston Strangler) for Scott Free, with Brent O’Connor (High speed train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) AND Tom Moran (The king of donuts) as executive producers.
Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters on August 16th.
