It turned out that the final of the new “World of the Jurassic period” can be much darker.
Director Gareth Edwards initially removed the end in which one of the most important signs – Duncan performed by Mahershal Ali – dies. But in the final phase of work on the blockbuster, the studio changed thoughts and asked to make again. So on the screen, the audience receives a completely different denouement – and, possibly, even more spectacular.
In an interview with the US Today Edwards admitted: “It was my first reaction – to kill him. I left.”
According to the first scenario, Duncan sacrifices itself to save the team from the mutated dinosaur. The final was mounted as a tragic death. After the internal show, however, the studio carefully asked: “Is it still possible to survive?”

Duncan did not return to the Regiedersie. But after the answer in the final version of the film, he suddenly relieves a signal label – and appears on a boat for the latest credits.
According to Edwards, precisely because the scene was shot as a tragic, all classic techniques “The character dies heroic” remained in their place. And it was this according to the director who played in his hands: the audience believed in death and the return was unexpected.
“Everything in the film leads to the fact that he dies. We have played all the cards that are usually used before the last victim. That’s why, when he survives, it really works,” says Edwards.
It is curious that the director has surprisingly easily admitted the accuracy of the studio: “This is just the rare case when the studio was right.” Usually such interventions are seen as a disaster – it is enough to remember the story with the blocked “Justice League” Joss Widon. But here the assessment of the end seems to have benefited the film.
By the way, there was another version of the final, which was eventually cut: according to the idea of T-Rex, he had to fight with a dinosaur mutant and win. But the visual effects and the general style of the film eventually pushed the command to a more modest solution – without a mandatory dinosaur duel in the spirit of earlier parts.
