MIDSOMMAR Director Ari Aster Produces Stop-Motion Animated Film HANSEL & GRETEL

Ari Asterthe director behind the enhanced horror film Hereditary AND Mid summeris producing a stop-motion animated adaptation of the classic dark tale of Hansel and Gretel.

Aster will produce together with Lars Knudsen and the film will be directed by Chilean directors Cristobal Leon AND Joaquín Cocina (The Hyperboreans). The makers had previously worked with Aster on the film Beau is scared.

While we all know the story of Hansel and Gretel, this new version of the story is expected to “transform the fairy tale into inimitable forms.” So it will be interesting.

Speaking about the film, León said: “It’s our very own adaptation of the classic fairy tale, with the main difference being that Hansel and Gretel are both boys in this version, at least at the beginning of the story. History itself is lost.”

Aster said: “Cociña and León are among the true originals working in animation right now. You can trace their sensibility to various artists of the uncanny, but there is no real analogue for the effect their work produces on the viewer.

It will be interesting to see what this twisted new version consists of Hansel and Gretel it will end up being. I hope it’s nightmare fuel.
