Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films are still developing a live-action Masters of the Universe movie, and it was just announced Nicola Galitzine is taking on the role of He-Man.
I’m not familiar with Galitzine’s work, but he has appeared in projects like The idea of you, Red, white and royal blueand some other movies I’ve never heard of.
Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Magic Sword), and the script comes from Chris Butler. David Callaham, Aaron Nee AND Adam Nee worked on an earlier draft.
Giulia Rapaporthead of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more thrilled to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man.
“Joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from now until Eternia.”
President of Mattel Films, Robbie Brenner added, “Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon, and to once again partner with the incredible Courtenay Valenti, to bring Masters of the Universe to the big screen.
“We are thrilled to produce alongside the esteemed and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!”
I love that Travis Knight is directing the movie. This is the selling point for me, but there is a synopsis that has been shared that concerns me because for some reason it sets the story on Earth.
In Masters of the Universe“10-year-old Prince Adam, who crash-landed on Earth aboard a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword, his only link to his home on Eternia.
“After tracking him down nearly two decades later, Prince Adam is returned to space to defend his home planet from Skeletor’s evil forces.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam must first uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
I want to see an epic He-Man movie made and I hope Knight manages to make something great. I also hope this synopsis is wrong.
