Eight years ago we announced it Leonardo DicaprioThe Appian Way production company was working on the film adaptation of the classic comic Captain Planet.
Hollywood treasure Glen Powell (Top Gun: nonconformist, Anyone but you) was tapped early on as the project’s writer and is expected to star as well. Powell has provided updates on the project over the years, and now he brings us another one that’s even more optimistic than ever.
The actor told Yahoo!: “Captain Planet is definitely something I’m incredibly passionate about. Leonardo DiCaprio and I have been putting this thing together for several years.
“With the recent changes at Warner Bros., we’re just trying to figure out how the pieces are going to fit together. He’s an environmental superhero, so he’s not necessarily part of DC: he exists outside of that world.
“At the same time, I think the world has never needed an environmental superhero so much! So I think tonally it fits with everything that James Gunn and Peter Safran are doing at DC and Leo and I are very optimistic that we can make something happen. I would love to play Captain Planet, it would be crazy.”
This version of the animated series was said to be set “years after the show’s adventures, with the now deceased Captain who needs the children more than they need him.”
The DC lineup doesn’t appear to have done so Captain Planet as part of his plan, but he could always act as if The Batmanand be his individual property.
