A new report has emerged that claims that singer and songwriter Dua Lipa was courted for the role of Meg in Disney’s live-action remake Hercules.
When the project was first announced, it was revealed Avengers: Endgame directors Joe AND Antonio Russo they were on board as producers, and Guy Ritchie he had to direct.
There were also previous rumors that Taron Edgerton AND Ariana Grande were in the running for the roles of Hercules and Meg, and while there’s every chance they’ll end up in the cast, we might be able to add another name to the mix for the film’s female lead.
This latest news on Meg comes from reliable Disney source DisInsider, but it doesn’t say whether Lipa is actually in talks, only that the studio “likes” her for the part.
Lipa made a brief cameo Barbieand has a minor supporting role in Argyle, but she is trying to have great success in Hollywood as an actress. She definitely has the look and voice to play Meg! As for acting, I’m sure she would be good.
Speaking previously about how they got involved with the project, Anthony Russo explained: “Both us and our children are fanatics of Hercules. And we’d heard that Disney was interested in revisiting it and we’re in love with the original. And we made an example why we felt it would be right to produce that film and here we are.”
Joe continued, “I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our point of view as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel films.
“We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we think if you want that story you can go and read it. We’ll give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and take inspiration from it, but we also bring some new ones to the table elements.”
In another interview, the Russos revealed that they are still “waiting for a script” and said: “There are questions about how to translate it into a musical. Audiences today have been formed by TikTok, right? What are their expectations of What does that musical look and feel like? It can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit on how to perform a modern musical.”
