Universal Pictures has announced a new film project that is being created and will be directed by Steven Spielberg. will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026.
Long-time collaborator of the director David Koepp is set to write the screenplay. Spielberg and Koepp have already worked on projects such as Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the WorldsAND Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Deadline’s report states that there are no details to share about the story of this film, and there isn’t even a title for the film, but last month it was reported that Spielberg’s next film would be a “UFO movie based on his original idea.” .”
Spielberg seems to enjoy telling stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest science fiction films of all time: Close encounters of the third kind in 1977 and ET in 1982. He also directed H.G. Wells’ 2005 adaptation War of the Worldsand produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.
Spielberg has also previously reflected on his past and joked that he is interested in “scaring the hell out” of audiences with a new horror film.
He said: “I feel a little alarmed when I’m told I’ve lived a life because I’m not done. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I have to going back to some of those early scary movies, but that’s another story for later.”
As a long-time Spielberg fan, I’m really excited about this new project of his! Maybe this will be some kind of science fiction horror movie!
