X-MEN franchise producer Simon Kinberg is developing a STAR TREK prequel

X-Men franchise manufacturer Simone Kinberg is in talks to develop and produce a Star Trek prequel film for Paramount Pictures.

The project has already been in development at the studio for a while. Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) worked on the screenplay and Toby Haynes (Andor, Black Mirror: USS Callister) is on board to direct.

All we know about the film so far is that it will tell an origin story for the “main timeline of Star Trek franchise (rather than the alternate one, Kelvin’s timeline began in the 2009s Star Trek), set in the aftermath of humanity’s first contact with aliens.

It should be an interesting story to tell, and I’m curious to see what comes of it, if it ultimately gets made. As you know, Paramount had trouble getting a new one Star Trek films from the ground. I’m sure they’ll get their act together sooner or later, though.

The studio attempted to obtain a Star Trek 4 film made for years. This film is a different project than Star Trek 4, which is still in active development. It is said to be “the final chapter of the main series”.

Maybe Kinberg will be able to steer this thing in the right direction and move it forward. JJ Abrams he’s also a producer on the project, but hasn’t been able to do much with it.
