The slasher franchise of the 90s I know what you did last summer is being revived with a new film that will be released next summer on July 18, 2025.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Vendetta) will direct the film for Sony Pictures Leah McKendrick (BUT IT IS.) write the screenplay.
The film is described as a legacy sequel, and McKendrick previously spoke about the project, saying he will update it, but also deliver the tried-and-true formula of “interesting people doing questionable things.”
McKendrick explained: “I mean, it’s interesting people who do questionable things, right? Basically, I think it really deals with some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you.
“And in the age of the internet and where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no more secrets?”
He went on to add, “Obviously I watched it 8 million times while I was working on it, but it’s fun. It’s just a popcorn, wild ride. It’s campy sometimes, Jennifer Love Hewitt it’s so hot,Freddie Prinze Jr. it’s so hot. Sarah Michelle [Gellar], Ryan [Phillippe], they are so wonderful. It’s like nice people behave badly. You can never have enough. There’s a lot of that in this film.
We don’t know if any of the original cast will return for the next film, but there have been reports that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. could potentially return.
The original film came from the director Jim Gillespie and writer Kevin Williamson (He shouted) and is based on Lois Duncan’s novel. In the film, “Four young friends bonded by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.”
Are you excited about this? I know what you did last summer he’s coming back!?
