Legendary Entertainment will produce a live-action film adaptation of the horror video game Poppy recreationwhich features a toy that transforms into a monster.
The project is said to be in the vein of Willy Wonka, History of the toyAND Gremlinsand the story follows “a former employee of a faded toy brand who, thanks to a cryptic letter, is brought back to an abandoned facility only to quickly discover that it has become the home of a series of toys, including Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs and CatNap, which have taken on a life of their own.
In the game, players must decipher clues, solve puzzles, and use gadgets to unravel the mystery and make it out alive.
Legendary will develop and produce the project alongside Mob Entertainment and Angry Films’ Don Murphy AND Susan Montfordwhich recently completed production of Faces of death horror movie.
I’ll be honest, I had never even heard of it until today Poppy recreation, but it looks like it could be a decent movie. Legendary is obviously trying to ride Blumhouse’s wave Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Poppy recreation was released on Steam in 2021. It became a huge game, amassing over 12 million players on PC and mobile, and, over time, was played on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
The game also became a major merchandising phenomenon, featuring Huggy Wuggy plush toys and other toys
