Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE director Shawn Levy discuss the film’s rating, cameos and more

Deadpool and Wolverine Tickets went on sale this week and, in anticipation of this summer’s huge success, Fandango caught up with the film’s stars, Ryan Reynolds AND Hugh Jackmanas well as director Shawn Levy to talk about everything from R-rating to cameos and beyond. Levy began by talking about the making of this threequel, Marvel’s first R-rated film, and why it was important to maintain the tone of the previous films:

“We were clear from the beginning. We said, ‘Well, the three of us are going to do this and we have to be honest, respecting the tone of a Deadpool movie.’ That means we’re not going to soften the edges, we’re going to be bold and funny and edgy, as I know, as a fan, I want from Logan and from Wade Wilson, I have to say, every time Ryan, Hugh, and I expected a negative reaction, we got the support. Kevin, everyone at Disney, they trusted us and let us make the version of Deadpool and Wolverine that we think is the best.

When the conversation turned to cameos, the trio refused to confirm or deny whether we’ll see the likes of Elektra, Mystique, and Storm (though Jackman apparently had to stop himself from smiling when the latter was mentioned). As for the persistent rumors about Taylor Swift as Dazzler, Reynolds responded:

“You know, movies like this… there’s so much speculation about so many people who could end up in the movie. I saw one who was convinced that Elvis was in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s what I like about this universe, the Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.”

Levy added:

“We come to this movie… I definitely come to this movie… as a fan. A fan of the X-Men movies and the Deadpool movies. And so, this movie was definitely made with the love of being a fan .” Wade Wilson and Logan are built not to get along since the comics. These are two characters that are really built in a way that will drive each other crazy, especially Logan. He would find Wade to be really, really annoying ass. The relationship and this journey reach unexpected places. It’s bold, there’s definitely some sick action. The relationship and how it evolves will be surprising to people.

Jackman added the last word Deadpool and Wolverinesaid:

“The fans will be very happy. I’ve been talking to fans all over the world for 24 years. I feel like I have a connection and I always enjoy talking to them. They’re very honest… I haven’t heard great things about what I’ve done, I’ve heard good things and there will be a lot of happiness. The thing I want to impress the fans the most is from the moment I read the script written by Ryan and Shawn was a love for Wolverine and caring for Wolverine and also the desire to give the character runway that we’ve never had before, to express parts of him that we’ve never been able to before the characters… you fans are going to see a different side and I know from what they’ve told me they’re going to say, ‘ Yes!'”

We can not wait! This movie has more hype than any other Marvel project in recent years. It’s really fun and I think we’re in for some big surprises. Check out the full interview below and purchase your tickets Deadpool and Wolverine now on Fandango.
