Disney Studios and producer Jerry Bruckheimer they are currently developing a couple of new ones Pirates of the Caribbean movie, one of the movies involves Margot Robbie and the other involves The bear star Ayo Edebiri.
As the studio moves forward with the franchise, Bruckheimer still hopes to bring Johnny Depp back to the role of Jack Sparrow.
During a recent interview with ET, the producer was asked if Depp would return as Sparrow, he replied: “If it were up to me, obviously. I love having Depp. He’s a great actor and a good friend… I’ve definitely talked to him, but we’ll see what happens.”
So, the two have talked about the possibility of Depp returning, but at this point it’s really up to Disney if they’re willing to bring the actor back.
Bruckheimer previously spoke about trying to get Depp back, saying, “We’re all working on it. We’ll see how it comes out. But we’re very excited. I think we’re going to have a fantastic script. And we’re very excited to get closer.”
He continued: “We’ll see. I would love it. I would love it in the movie. That’s all I can tell you.”
A Disney executive previously said on the matter: “I absolutely believe that, following the verdict, Pirates is ready for a reboot with Johnny as Captain Jack on board. There is just too much potential box office treasure for a beloved character deeply rooted in Disney culture.”
As for how Depp feels about returning to the role, he’s reportedly “felt betrayed by the company,” but an inside source says, “Anything is possible” and “If it’s the right project, he’ll do it.”
President of film production at the Disney Studio Sean Bailey spoke about the new Pirates movie that’s in development, saying, “We think we have a really beautiful, emotional story that honors the previous movies and also has something new.”
