There’s another one Cinderella-inspired horror film that has been announced and this one will focus on one of Cinderella’s stepsisters.
The film is titled The ugly stepsisterand is directed by Emilie Blichfeldtwho is making his directorial debut.
The film will combine comedy and horror and is described as “a bold and unexpected take on the world-famous fairy tale, seen through the eyes of Cinderella’s stepsister Elvira.”
It explains: “The gritty film follows Elvira as she fights to compete with her insanely beautiful stepsister in a kingdom where beauty is a brutal matter. She will do anything to get the prince’s attention.
She added: “It’s time the story of the ugly stepsister was lifted out of Cinderella’s shadow and cultivated as the iconic feminist narrative of the tyranny of beauty that it is.”
Blichfeldt said in a statement: “With this ‘beauty horror’ I want to seduce the audience into a ‘girl who dreams of marrying the prince’, before revealing her true, raw interior.”
The film’s production company, Momento International, added: “It is highly contemporary in its exploration of what one is willing to do to meet the beauty standards society imposes on women.”
They continued, “Emilie is finally giving voice to the vulnerable in a very entertaining way, allowing audiences around the world to connect with her.”
I’ve only seen stepsisters in… Cinderella story as a couple of spoiled brats, so this will be a different and interesting take on this part of the story.
