Stephen King says Netflix’s BABY REINDEER is “one of the best things” he’s ever seen

Stephen King He’s a big fan of Netflix Little reindeer series. After watching the series, the iconic author posted “BABY REINDEER: Holy shit” on X.

The author later expanded on his praise for the show, writing an essay on the topic that was shared in the British publication The Times.

King calls this darkly funny drama “one of the best things” he’s ever seen. He also compared it to his novel Miseryjoking: “My first thought was to thank God that my novel arrived first, otherwise people would think I stole it Riccardo Gadd.”

King continued, “Unlike most episodes of streaming series, which can feel bloated after 50 minutes — or even more — episodes of Little reindeereach lasting about 30 minutes, they are like short and quick stabs inflicted by a very sharp knife.

He continued: “The great gift (I won’t call it a trick) of Little reindeer is that we come to understand why it took Donny so long to report his abuse. In his heart, Donny believes he deserves it. We feel empathy for him rather than impatience, and we come to feel empathy for Martha too.”

The series is based on a true story and follows writer and actor Richard Gadd’s distorted relationship with his stalker and the impact it has on him when he is forced to face a deep, dark trauma.

The story centers on comedian Donny Dunn’s (Gadd) strange and layered relationship with a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning), whose initially friendly demeanor unravels when he begins to stalk Donny relentlessly.

“Their first interaction is innocent enough: While working as a bartender, Donny shows an act of kindness towards Martha, a customer whose vulnerability is immediately apparent.

“But, as they say, ‘no good deed goes unpunished,’ and this chance meeting unleashes a suffocating obsession that threatens to destroy both their lives and forces Donny to confront his deeply buried trauma.”

The way the story unfolds is intense, emotional, funny and heartbreaking. It’s a beautifully crafted yet tragic story. If you haven’t looked Little reindeer and yet, it’s worth it!
