Mike Flanagan in talks to direct next EXORCIST film for Blumhouse and Universal

Director Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Midnight Mass) is in talks to direct the next one exorcist films for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.

The first film, The Exorcist: Believerwas the first film in a planned trilogy, but the film, directed by David Gordon Green, it was a complete disaster. The film did not do as well at the box office as the studio had hoped.

Universal and Blumhouse bet big on the horror franchise and buy the rights The exorcist from Morgan Creek back for $400 million and want to make sure the investment pays off.

Bringing in a director like Flanagan guarantees that the next film will be a high-quality production. Flanagan is a strong director and a great storyteller, and if anyone can do something great with this franchise, it’s him.

It was previously reported that the studio would be committed to finishing the new trilogy, but for how The Exorcist: Believer turned out and as it was received, “will almost certainly require some degree of creative rethinking for the next two films.”

Flanagan is the person they want to get the franchise back on track with.

In the film, “Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding has raised their daughter Angela alone.

“But when Angela and her friend Katherine disappear into the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, a chain of events is unleashed that will force Victor to face the lowest point of evil and, in his terror, and desperation, seeks out the only person alive who has ever witnessed something similar: Chris MacNeil.

What do you think about Flanagan possibly starring in the next film in the series? exorcist franchising?
