I love this theory about M. Night Shyamalan’s new serial killer TRAP and its potential big twist

I was very curious M. Night Shyamalanit’s the next thriller Trap. I liked the trailer released for the film, but I was surprised that it revealed a major twist in the story.

Trap follows a father and daughter, played by Josh Hartnett AND Ariel Donoghueas they attend a concert by pop sensation Lady Raven, but this is no ordinary concert.

It is revealed that the concert is a trap set to catch a serial killer known as “The Butcher”. As the trailer continues, we learn that Hartnett’s character is the Butcher and now he finds himself in a difficult situation where he must figure out how to escape this elaborate trap that has been set for him.

It’s safe to say that this big reveal in the trailer isn’t the movie’s big twist. There’s something else at play here, and CinemaBlend recently shared a theory about what that twist might be, and I had to pass it on, because I love it and hope it’s true!

Well, it was introduced Trap could be a secret sequel to M. Night Syamalan’s classic film The sixth sensein the same way that Divided was a secret sequel to Unbreakable.

One thing I wondered while watching the trailer: How do the cops know The Butcher would attend this concert if they organized it for him? If they knew who he was, why wouldn’t they just arrest him?

So what could the connection be between Trap and The Sixth Sense? The theory is that it is Cole Sear, Haley Joel Osment’s character from The Sixth Sense, the boy who sees ghosts.

What if the cops got all their information from Cole, who in turn communicated with the Butcher’s murdered victims?

The theory is: “Cole, now an adult, uses his supernatural abilities to assist law enforcement in tracking down serial killers before they can strike again… Perhaps Cole is aiding the spirit of one of “The Butcher’s” victims, guiding them towards resolution and peace.”

I have no idea if this is how things will play out in the movie, but even if it’s not, I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a movie that follows an adult version of Cole who uses his supernatural abilities to help people as adults.

What do you think of this theory?
