Elliot Page (The Umbrella Academy) announced that it is developing a film adaptation of the science fiction novel The darkness outside us.
Page’s production company, Pageboy Productions, is handling the project, based on the novel by Eliot Schrefer. “The darkness outside us is a love story of two young people from enemy countries placed aboard a spaceship on a rescue mission.
Along the way, they learn that they must work together and that love may be the key to survival.”
Page and Pageboy producing partners Matt Jordan Smith and Tuck Dowrey said in a statement:
“We are proud to support Eliot’s extraordinary work. The darkness outside us it’s exactly the kind of story we want to support at PAGEBOY: it’s subversive and deeply human at its core. It’s a complex love story, a creative thriller, and a space epic with twists at every corner. We can’t wait to take the next steps to bring it to the big screen.”
Schrefer has a following, The brightness between us, out in October. The writer declared in a statement:
“What do I hope for most for my novel? A nimble, young and motivated production company, very lively in Hollywood, and that’s exactly what I got with PAGEBOY Productions. I’m so excited about their vision The darkness outside us and honored to have the talents of Elliot, Matt, Tuck and the rest of the team dedicated to this project.
The project has just taken off. We’ll let you know more as it develops.
