Henry Cavill on the possibility of playing James Bond: “Maybe I’m too old, maybe not”

Henry Cavill he will actually play the man who inspired James Bond Guy Ritchiethe next World War II action film, The Ungentlemanly War Office. But Cavill hasn’t completely written off his role as 007 in the Bond franchise just yet.

While a guest on The Rich Eisen Show, he talked about his character, Gus March-Phillipps, in The Ungentlemanly War Officeand his relationship with the author Ian Fleming.

Cavill said: “I’m sure Ian Fleming wrote James Bond with many stories, many characters in mind, but as I understand it, Gus March-Phillipps was one of the strongest influences.”

The actor is then asked if he will ever take on the role of 007 in the long-running series, to which he replies: “I have no idea.”

He continued, “All I have to say is the rumors. The same information you have. Maybe I’m too old now, maybe I’m not. It’s up to Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson and we’ll see what their plans are.”

It’s then pointed out that he plays the guy Bond was based on, to which Cavil replied: “Yeah, seems like a good first step, right?”

It seems he still holds our hope. But you know what? It was great The Ungentlemanly War Officeand I would much rather see him continue to play that character!

His version of Gus March-Phillipps is much more colourful, fun and interesting than James Bond! After playing that character, it seems like Bond would be boring to play.

Cavill almost got the role of Bond 20 years ago when he was cast Casino Royale opposite to Daniel Craig. Now, it looks like the character will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Cavill doesn’t need Bond, but if he finally gets to play the character, fans would agree.
