Geena Davis confirms she won’t be returning for the BEETLEJUICE sequel and theorizes why

I’m as excited as any other big fan of Cockroach juice to see the sequel Beetle juice Beetle juice will hit the big screen later this year. Michael Keaton is back as the lead and joins the returning cast mates Winona Ryder AND Catherine O’Hara.

I’m excited to see these three return to their iconic roles, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little hopeful to see Geena Davis AND Alec Baldwin they return as Adam and Barbara Maitland, the sweet couple who died in a car accident in the first film and were unable to leave their house as ghosts.

While we hadn’t seen them in any cast list or footage from the film, there had been no official word on whether or not we’d see them in the sequel.

Now, Davis is setting the record straight and confirming that her character (and most likely Baldwin’s) will not be returning.

Speaking to ET at CinemaCon last week, Davis said:

“No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake. Oh, did you expect me to be? Yes, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… Not that I. Our characters are stuck forever the way they looked when they died, so it’s been a while, it’s been a minute.”

It’s logical that they don’t want to try to rejuvenate these characters to repeat the old story. I like to think that Adam and Barbara dated Lydia (Ryder) for a while, then found a way to move on. This new story will see Lydia as an adult with a grumpy teenage daughter of her own, played by Jenna Ortega.

Beetle juice Beetle juice will be released on September 6, 2024.
