Dan Harmon working on the script for the live-action ONE PUNCH MAN film

Sony Pictures has developed a live-action film adaptation of the hit manga and anime The fist man. Fast & Furious franchising director Justin Lin is set to direct the film, and today we learned that there’s a new writer hired.

Dan Harmon, creator of Community and Rick & Morty, recently joined the project to work on the film’s script. He is joined by Rick and Morty co-executive producer Heather Anne Campbell.

This is a great and exciting addition to the creative team! The initial draft of the film’s screenplay was written by Venom co-writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. This was in 2022, and the film was supposed to begin shooting by the end of that year. But that obviously didn’t happen.

The project, however, is moving forward again with Harmon and Campbell. Lin is also still attached to directing and Avi Arad AND Ari Arad by Arad Productions (Spiderman franchising, Iron Man, X-Men franchising, Poison) are producing the film.

The fist man is an action comedy created by Japanese artist ONE and tells the story of Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch, leading him to become bored and disillusioned with his own strengths.

The story is set in a world full of heroes and monsters, where Saitama’s unique problem is his ability to win battles effortlessly, which takes the excitement out of his life.

Despite his overwhelming power, Saitama struggles to gain recognition and respect in the hero community.

I love The fist man and I’m curious to see how this live-action adaptation turns out. There’s a strong creative team involved right now and I hope they capture the amazing craziness of these characters and this story!

The manga follows Saitama, a superhero powerful enough to finish off any opponent with – you guessed it – one punch, in a world terrorized by supervillains and monsters. But this makes winning battles quite boring, and he ends up mentoring a vengeful cyborg named Genos.
