Warner Bros. lands the film BLACK SAMURAI from director THE COLOR PURPLE, Blitz Bazawule

Warner Bros. has arrived The color purple director Blitz Bazawuleis the next project, which deals with the legendary Yasuke, an African warrior who became the first black samurai.

A report from Variety claims that Warner Bros. beat out offers from three other studios and streamers for the script, tentatively titled Black Samuraiwhich Bazawule wrote on spec and will direct and produce under his Inward Gaze banner.

After impressing the industry with its debut in 2018 Kojo’s burialleading episodes of By Ava DuVernay Enjoy the moment and work with Beyoncé in his feature-length visual album Black is kingBazawule made his major studio debut with 2023’s The color purple.

The Ghanaian director, who brought his unique visual language to the world of cinema Oprah Winfrey AND Steven Spielberg-musical film, he is said to have done the same with his portrayal of Yasuke, an African warrior who served under the Japanese daimyo Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period of samurai conflict in 16th-century Japan.

Instead of a traditional biopic, the film invokes shades of 300 AND Mad Max. The exact plot points are still under wraps.
