Lionsgate made its big presentation at CinemaCon 2024 and during it showed the very first footage of the upcoming John Wick spin-off film Ballerina: A John Wick Story.
Ana de Armas stars in the revenge film directed by Len Weisman and it looks like it’s going to be a tough, action-packed movie! Armas really kicks ass!
The story “focuses on a young assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.”
Ana de Armas joins Angelica Huston, Ian McShane, Norman Reedus, AND Keanu Reeves in the film and appeared in the first trailer!
McShane recently explained why the movie was delayed, saying, “It’s not reshoots, it’s reshoots. They’re shooting for Ballerina, which is the spin-off starring Ana de Armas from the John Wick franchise. You know, it’s like they have to protect the franchise.
“And of course I did, when was that? We did it about a year ago, we made the movie Ballerina and they saw it, and Chad [Stahelski] comes in, the guy who directed all the John Wick movies, and they want to make it better. Because they have to protect him. Because Keanu’s in it, and it’s set between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4.”
McShane previously spoke about the film, saying, “This is set in the middle John Wick 3 AND John Wick 4, because Keanu is there too. You didn’t want to set it later John Wick 4, because then social media would say, “Oh, so he’s still alive!” What will he do next time? There’s a John Wick 5?!’ This way, you can continue to pretend that a file may not exist John Wick 5.”
He continued saying, “This time we protect Ana de Armas, and I had my great friend, Mr. Lance Reddick. God bless you, Lance: he died last year. Lance and I bring our usual protection to Mrs. de Armas. AND [director] Len [Wiseman] I found it a pleasure to work for. Again, we worked out the script ahead of time, so there was no wasted time.”
The film will be released on June 6, 2025.
