Last week it was announced that Marvel Studios had cast the Ozark star Giulia Garner as Shalla-Bal who is one of the many incarnations of the Silver Surfer from the comics in The fantastic Four.
The casting caused a stir among fans as some laughed and mocked the casting, while others were ignited with feelings of curiosity and some completely embraced the casting.
Gardner is a very talented young actress and I fall into the line of curiosity. I think there are some really fun and potentially interesting ones here, and it will be interesting to see what Marvel is imagining for the character.
It turns out another popular actor seemed to be in the mix to play a version of the Silver Surfer, and that actor is Atlanta‘S LaKeith Stanfield.
In a now-deleted social media post, Stanfield hinted that he was up for the role. Stanfield shared a graphic announcing Gardner’s casting, saying that he “thought it would be me.” But the post has since been removed from Stanfield’s profile.
Stanfield has a strange working relationship with Disney, having appeared last year Haunted house restart. Stanfield would have made another cool and interesting choice for the role of the Silver Surfer, but obviously Marvel is going in a very different direction.
Movie stars Pedro Pasquale (The last of us) as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible: Showdown) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn (Stranger things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch; AND Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.
The film is set in the 1960s and will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a screenplay by Josh Friedmanwho was brought in to rewrite the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan AND Ian Springer.
Fantastic 4 will be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
What do you think? If you could choose between Stanfield and Gardner, who would you choose?
