Star Wars Creator George Lucas he’s built an empire across his galaxy far, far away, and that’s put him at the top of the list of Hollywood’s richest billionaires. The Forbes report states that Lucas debuted as a billionaire in 1997 and owes his fortune largely to his production company LucasFilm, which he sold to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion in cash and stock. It is now worth $5.5 billion.
Steven Spielberg comes in second place with $4.8 billion, and landed on the list in 1994 as the first director to make the cut. After a series of successes that included Jaws, ET, Jurassic Park AND Schindler’s List, Does this make sense. “I’m a gambler,” he said Forbes that year. “I haven’t taken a paycheck in almost a decade now.” Instead, she negotiated to get a percentage of the gross sales of her films, and continues to receive a cut of every ticket sold at Universal’s theme parks thanks to Indiana Jones series.
It’s great to see two guys who started out as young directors with a dream make it this far. They were champions for emerging directors and gave so much to the fans. They deserve their place on that list.
