Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor he’s been very vocal about wanting to do another season of the Star Wars series. But even if that doesn’t happen, the actor is “pretty sure” that he will have the opportunity to play the Jedi Master again in some capacity.
During a recent interview with LADbible, McGregor spoke out Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 saying he hasn’t heard from the studio yet about any plans, saying:
“The truth is, I’ve been talking about covering the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that, and I’m not lying about that now. I don’t know. There was no call to me from Lucasfilm, or from Disney saying, ‘Let’s make another one.’ Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it came out and people like it, which I’m very, very happy about.”
The series was met with mixed reactions and I thought it could have been so much better. I thought a great story was wasted. Regardless, I wouldn’t mind seeing McGregor back as Obi-Wan one day. He continued by saying:
“I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know. I’ve still got a few years left before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow confirmed that McGregor is pushing hard for a second season and also floated story ideas.
“You always think you’re going to finish a series like this in a great way, but instead you find yourself in a car park with the second unit and hardly anyone there. It’s always so disappointing, but when Ewan and I finished our last one we shot on the second unit and I was literally taking my headphones off, he was already pitching me ideas for Season 2. There’s another 10 years with a lot of story, and I don’t think that’s out of the ordinary. It’s a ‘never say never,’ but we really intended this to be a limited series.”
It will be interesting to see what happens next with Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe. There are definitely more stories to tell, they just need a good creative team to develop them!
