The future of STAR TREK anticipated by producer Alex Kurtzman who wants to make series that “mean something”

With Star Trek: The Discovery will end with the fifth season Star Trek architect Alex Kurtzmann recently spoke about the future of the franchise. The shows they developed for Paramount+, which also include Picard and Strange New Worlds, were amazing! But what will happen next? There are a few different projects in the works and, speaking about what the Star Trek team is working on, Kurtzman said:

“I think, contrary to what some people think, we’re not really in the high volume business. It’s not about producing a lot of shows, it’s about producing shows that mean something. So for me, I think I’m looking for every show has to be different from the previous one. That’s really all that matters. I don’t look at it as, ‘Okay, I’m planning for the next 20 years, what are we going to do?’ I’m actually thinking more, ‘What’s a story we haven’t told, a crew we haven’t met yet, and an adventure we haven’t had?’ That’s really the qualification.

“What I don’t want is for you to think, ‘Well, I don’t really need to watch this show because I’ve already seen it, so I’ve had my fill of Star Trek.’ I want each series to feel individualized and specific, and a lot of that has to do with trusting different voices and different showrunners to come in and give their own take on Star Trek and tell their own version of a story that’s interesting to them. way you keep it fresh.”

This is a great perspective on how to proceed with the future Star Trek projects! He went on to tease some of the projects they are currently developing by saying:

“I’m really excited about the things that are coming. We’re shooting Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh right now. We’re starting Starfleet Academy in late summer. Everything feels different and special. There’s more to come.” behind that I’m really excited about. For me, it’s about continuing to feel fresh. “

I like that they keep things fresh and new with the projects they are developing and the things Kurtzman says here in this interview give me hope and excitement for the future of the franchise.
