Paramount Pictures and producer JJ Abrams they’re still trying to get Star Trek 4 off the ground and in production, but still being written. The firm just hired Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series The flight attendantto work on the script.
There are no story details to share yet, but the film is set to be the final chapter for the cast that rebooted the franchise with 2009’s Star Trek. That cast includes Chris Pino as Captain James T. Kirk, Zechariah Quintus as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldaña as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Carlo Urbano as Dr. Leonard McCoy, John Cho as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, and Simone Pegg as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott.
The most recent attempt to obtain Star Trek 4 the director had the director from the ground Matt Shakman (WandaVision) and screenwriters Lindsey Beer (Pet seminar) AND Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) developing the film. But everything fell apart, like all the other attempts.
Pine had previously been asked if he had heard any plans in this regard Star Trek 4and his response was, “Not that I know of [of].” Then, when we asked him if he had seen any scripts, he said, “Of course not.”
Pine also said he believes the franchise is cursed, saying, “After the last one came out and didn’t make the billion dollars that everyone wanted, and then Anton, [Yelchin, who played Chekov] he’s dead, I don’t know, it felt like…” He later added that the franchise “feels like it’s cursed.”
He went on to talk about his frustration, saying, “I would say it’s frustrating. It doesn’t really foster the greatest sense of collaboration, but that’s how it’s always been. I love the character. I love the people. I love the franchise. But trying to change the system in which things are created, I just can’t do it. I don’t have the energy.”
Maybe one day the studio will actually be able to put this project into production, but it won’t be anytime soon.
