Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan he is having a lot of fun playing in ghost Buster sandbox and has ideas for sequels that could be a lot of fun to explore. He wants to tell stories set in other parts of the world that focus on other mythologies. During an interview with GamesRadar, Kenan said:
“I’m a greedy fan. I want more and more Ghostbusters fans, I’d be happy if these stories spread out in every direction. I’m happy we’re back in New York City, but I wouldn’t mind seeing something actually come to other parts of the world. I feel like one of the things that we’re going to explore in this movie is that there are mythologies that talk about not only ancient threats, but also ancient ghostbusters that the team in 1984 was trying to do is not the first to come together to find a way to stop a supernatural threat.
“I would like to explore how other cultures, or at least I would like to see as a fan, how other cultures create specific threats and specific ways to deal with them in future installments.”
It would make sense to expand the franchise to other parts of the world! There could be some incredibly interesting stories to tell! I know Sony Pictures and the creative team want to continue developing the franchise, but for that to happen, the released films need to continue to make money.
It seems like Frozen Empire did well this past weekend, despite the negative reviews. It wasn’t a runaway success, so we’ll have to wait and see what the studio decides to do with the franchise next.
