Bruce Campbell’s Emergency Room Pit Stop: The Hilarious Accident on the Set of ARMY OF DARKNESS

When it comes to cult classics, Army of Darkness stands as one of the most beloved and iconic films of the horror-comedy genre. However, behind the scenes, the production of this film had its share of mishaps and adventures. One of those accidents involved Bruce Campbellthe charismatic actor who played Ash Williams, and an unexpected trip to the emergency room.

During a battle sequence culminating in Army of Darkness, there’s a memorable moment where Bruce Campbell’s character Ash throws a stuntman depicting a Deadite skeleton up a flight of stairs. Unfortunately, things didn’t go entirely as planned, resulting in an accident that sent Campbell to the emergency room.

The accident resulted in a cut on Campbell’s face. This cut, among many other makeup-induced injuries, puzzled the attending physician. Campbell humorously recalled the incident in the film’s home media commentary track, saying:

“The doctor who stitched me up looked at my face and there were already six or seven cuts on my face. He was like, ‘Which one is cut?’ And then, of course, he had to put in his little contribution. As he was stitching me up, he said, ‘That, these other cuts, they don’t look very real.’ It’s like, yeah, but when I first got here you didn’t know which one. was the real cut.”

The makeup work in the film was obviously quite impressive, if the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the makeup department were so convincing that it momentarily baffled the doctor assigned to treat Campbell’s wound.

This incident, while unexpected, is not entirely uncommon in the world of cinema. Similar incidents have occurred, such as when Steve Dash, who played Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th: Part II, was rushed to hospital after a mistake with the machete injured his hand. To make things even more interesting, Dash still had the fake machete stuck in his shoulder, which understandably scared the hospital staff.

However, Campbell, always a dedicated professional, didn’t let this incident slow him down. After receiving stitches, he wasted no time and returned to the film set to continue filming. As he mentions in the commentary track:

“I just went straight back and got to work because you couldn’t tell if I had an extra cut on my face. It didn’t matter. It wasn’t like a soap opera, where you had to look perfect all the time.” time.”
