Nobody talks about the best Oscar speech; A call to Hollywood to give other directors a chance

No one seems to be talking about the best acceptance speech given at the Oscars this past weekend, so I thought I’d highlight it for you, because that’s what Hollywood really needs to hear!

I’ve been saying for years that the major Hollywood studios should make more original, low-budget films to give more filmmakers a chance to show what they have to offer and tell their stories. Not every movie made has to be worth more than $100 million!

So when Jefferson Cablewinner of the award for best adapted screenplay by American fiction he stood up and gave his speech, I was so damn happy that he actually shared this concept with the Hollywood elite during the ceremony! I think this was the most important speech of the evening as it was a call to Hollywood to make more low budget films and give more directors the chance to tell the stories they have to tell. Jefferson said:

“It’s a call to recognize and acknowledge that there are so many people out there who want the opportunity that I’ve been given. I get that this is a risk-averse industry, I get that, but even $200 million movies are a risk, and it doesn’t always work out. But you still run the risk. And instead of making one $200 million movie, try making ten $20 million movies, or 50 four million dollar movies!”

She added: “I felt so much joy making this movie and I want other people to feel that joy and be out there, I promise you. The next Martin Scorsesethe next one is out there Greta GerwigIt’s out there, next Christopher Nolanit’s out there. I promise you, they just want a chance and we can give them one.”

I love. That made me happy, and if there was one great thing to come from that Oscar ceremony, it was this speech. Everyone in the room applauded, but will anyone actually take the step to make this a reality?

It’s really crazy to me that Hollywood studios still don’t do this! There have been attempts, but they are not managed properly. Nobody did it right. There are also many more opportunities for studios to make money this way and find new franchises to build on!

Go Hollywood! Get your shit together! Let’s start making lots of great quality original films again that won’t cost you a ridiculous amount of money to produce!
