Gina Carano she recently opened up about what she went through after being fired from the Star Wars franchises from Disney and Lucasfilm. He also talked about her relationship with The Mandalorian star, Pedro Pascal.
As you know, Carano is suing Disney over being fired, and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano reflected on what it was like for her to hear the news that she was fired online like the rest of us, and how it was shocked. Disney had specifically called her out.
“I just laid down and cried and cried. I curled up in a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think something like this could happen. The fact is, I couldn’t imagine that they would make this horrible statement about me after working with me: the most powerful entertainment company in the world would say that about me.
Disney’s statement reads: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be employed in the future. However, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identity are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Carano went on to talk about the various trainings and media efforts that Disney asked her to undertake following an instance where, after she listed “beep/bop/beep” on her Twitter profile as pronouns. She received a lot of backlash for this and previously explained:
“I was wondering, what’s the least offensive thing you could ever do? And it’s like, it’s the least offensive thing. And then and then, you know, if there were so many aggressive people like trolls, bots, haters, and probably a lot of misguided young people who they love to bully.
“And so when someone would say something mean to me I would just go ‘beep boop’ because I feel like that was basically the nicest thing. You see all these other, you know, a lot of my male co-stars would get aggressive at these people and I mean some things and I’m like, here making fun of people. And I’m the one who gets fired?”
The actress also spoke about how Pedro Pascal, who has a trans sister, told her about the trans movement, saying: “He was telling me, ‘Just put #transrights in your feed. Do it and they’ll leave you alone.” But she didn’t “because it’s not my style to put hashtags on anything. I also won’t put the hashtag #TrumpsRights”.
Carano called their relationship “close” and shared that Pascal reached out to him after the recent passing of actor Carl Weathers. She said:
“Pedro and I were so close. He knows 1000% that I am not homophobic or transphobic. He texted me after Carl Weathers died. We had our conversation and it was beautiful. One thing he said was, “Thank you.” You and Carl Weathers have always been protectors.’ And he knows what it means, and I know what it means, and I wish I could say why. We basically left it at “I can’t wait to give you a big hug.” “
I’m really curious to see how this all plays out between Carano and Disney. It’s not easy to clash with Disney, but it has the support of Elon Musk.
