Warner Bros. Animation is developing a new film adaptation of The cat in the hat and according to The InSneider, Bill Hader (Barry) is set to provide the title character entry. The project was announced years ago, but Hader is the first actor to attach himself to the project. It’s kind of funny that Hader was cast in the role because he actually played The Cat in the Hat during a Saturday Night Live sketch.
After Warner Bros. canceled the Coyotes vs. ACME movie, I’m shocked that they’re actually going to move forward with a Cat in the hat movie. The last we heard about the film was that it had been delayed, but it was previously slated for a 2024 release.
There is currently no release date for the film, but according to the report, the film could hit theaters in 2025.
Erica Rivinoja AND Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) are said to be co-directing the film from a script written by Rivinoia AND Carolina Williams (Arrested development).
Susan Brandt, CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, previously said: “For the first time, we’re not just going to make a movie about a book. We’re going to build a franchise beyond the initial story of these books and figure out what happens next. Call it stretching the fabric. Until how far can we go, to go a little deeper with our characters.”
He also said, “For generations, Dr. Seuss has entertained and delighted children and adults with his whimsical stories. Our partnership with Warner Animation Group continues these efforts by reimagining beloved characters and stories for theater-going audiences, keeping the integrity of Dr. Seuss’ vision intact.”
