Director David Leitchthe next action comedy, The boy of autumn is a tribute and love letter to the Hollywood stunt community. The creative team really wanted to fill the film with all kinds of crazy stunts and showcase the incredible work that stuntmen and stuntwomen do for the films we watch.
Well, it turns out that while they were making the movie, they went ahead and pulled a record-breaking stunt, and that stunt is the focus of this new featurette that’s been released for the movie.
The stunt involves a cannon role, which is a maneuver where a car is flipped over without the use of a ramp, and from there gravity takes over and the car begins to roll. The stunt was performed by Logan Holladay who overturned the car eight and a half times! Just a reminder: no CG is used!
The previous record was held by the stuntman Adam Kirleywho rolled James Bond’s Aston Martin seven times during filming Casino Royale 18 years ago.
In the video below, you’ll actually see the team perform the stunt and there’s a camera in the car where you watch what Holladay does and it’s pretty damn crazy! He would be so wild to experience! Watch the video below!
The film is inspired by the series that aired from 1981 to 1986 and starred in it Lee Majors as a Hollywood stuntman. The film’s story focuses on a battered, retired stuntman (Gosling), who is pulled back into the stunt world to work on a film directed by his ex-girlfriend (Blunt). Aaron Taylor-Johnson he’s also in the movie as the protagonist of that movie, and he’s missing. So, Blunt needs Gosling’s help to save the production.
The synopsis reads: “He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot at, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest heights, all for our fun. And now, fresh from an accident that nearly ended his career, this working-class hero must track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his job daily. What could be good?”
The film is described as a “hilarious, gripping new pinnacle action thriller and a love letter to action movies and the hard-working, underrated crew of people who make them: The Fall Guy.”
Gosling plays Colt Seavers, “a battle-scarred stuntman who, after leaving the business a year earlier to focus on his physical and mental health, is called back into service when he stars in a big-budget studio film, directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Blunt, disappears.
While the ruthless producer of the film Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), “maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Taylor-Johnson) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt pulls off the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to get back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery surrounding the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself trapped in a sinister criminal plot that will push him to the brink of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Speaking about the film, Leitch said he was excited to make a film that represented the lives of professional stuntmen, who risk their lives for very little credit and for our entertainment. “I was a former stuntman, so it’s very, very dear to me.”
The film is also the protagonist Stephanie Hs, Teresa Palmer AND Winston Duke. The boy of autumn will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
