BARBIE director Greta Gerwig now says she wants to make a sequel

When Greta Gerwig leave for the journey to take Barbie, there were no plans for any sequel in mind. In recent months, when she has been asked about a possible sequel, she has never seemed committed to the idea.

When previously asked about the possibility of a sequel, she said: “Right now, that’s all I have. I feel like this at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea again, and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I’ve done. I wouldn’t want to break someone else’s dream but for me, at the moment, I’m totally at zero.”

But now Gerwig has changed her tune and very much wants to make a sequel. She is certainly enthusiastic about the idea and there is “no resistance” on her part about the possibility of doing it Barbie2.

It is explained that initially the director did not “feel” the idea of a sequel, but now she says: “I don’t reject it, I want to do it”.

Margot Robbie recently commented on a possible sequel question: “I think we put everything into this movie. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or anything like that. It was like Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what it would be to be next.”

He went on to talk about his biggest takeaway from making and releasing the film, saying, “I would say the biggest takeaway for me is that original movies can still be big hits at the box office. It doesn’t have to be a sequel.” either a prequel or a remake. It can be totally original. It can still be big, given the big budget to do it. And just because there’s a female protagonist doesn’t mean that she won’t hit all four quadrants, I mean, I think that’s a misconception that a lot of people still have. So it’s really important that Barbie got it right. As beautiful as she is, it’s also very important that she works well, so people can, in the future, have great original ideas and be given the budget to execute them properly.”

After Barbie became a billion dollar hit, there was no doubt that WB would want a sequel and Mattel’s CEO Ynon Kreiz stated that “the ambition is to create film franchises”.
