Tim Blake Nelson he made his debut as Samuel Sterns / The Leader in the MCU in The Incredible Hulk way back in 2008, and after all these years, it will make its return Captain America: Brave New World. In that movie, the Leader will face Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Captain America.
During a recent interview with CB, Nelson confirmed once again that he will be moving and teased that the Leader will have an important role in the story. He said:
“You’ll see me in a big way. What they’ve come up with is great.”
Director Giulio Onah he previously talked about the Leader being the main villain of the film and said that this villain attracted him to the film project:
“Let’s just say one of the things that really attracted me to this project is that the Leader is a man who operates with intellect, and so it’s great to have an opponent who works with this incredible intellect to, you know, test Sam .” the wringer in this story. And again, like a paranoid thriller, there’s this grounded adventure where I think everything that happens in this movie feels so real and intense, because of who this adversary is. So, back to that other question of yours, what he’s going to have to deal with in this movie is because he has an opponent who is so terribly intelligent.”
The director continued by saying:
“We have a lot to offer. And this is a new set of challenges and a new set of adversaries. I love classic paranoid thrillers and that’s a big part of the inspiration for this film. We want to find a grounded, tactile action that gives it new things to do that we haven’t seen in the other movies, and I don’t want to spoil too much, but let’s just say we have some really, really exciting things planned.
The Leader was originally supposed to return She-Hulk: Lawyer, but those plans were obviously abandoned. Showrunner Jessica Gao said previously:
“In my original presentation, I had put the Leader. Just as an option, as a suggestion, you know? But really, I can’t remember why [it was scrapped]. I don’t remember if it was removed organically, because we had something else in mind, or if we were told no. I honestly don’t remember. But there was some thought of bringing him back or making some version of a new version of Leader, or some relationship with him. But, really, this was three years ago, and the show has evolved so much that I don’t remember what actually happened.”
I’m excited to see Tim Blake Nelson back in the MCU and I love that he will have a big, important role in the film. Captain America: Brave New World!
The film will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
