A strange trailer for the superhero parody film has been released, The people’s jokerdirected by Vera Drewwith whom he co-wrote the film Bri Le Rose. Drew also plays Joker the Harlequin in the film, and is joined by co-stars Lynn Downey, Nathan Faustyn, Kane Distler, David Liebe Hart, Griffin Kramer, Christian Calloway, Brazier Knight, Dan Curry, Cricket Arrison, Eliot Glazer, Sandy Honig, Alec Robbins, Mia Moore Marchant, Phil Braun, Trevor Drinkwater, Daniella Baker, Bambi Bell, Denali winter, Ruin CarrollAND Arden Hughes. Tim Heidecker, Bob Odenkirk, Maria BamfordAND Scott Aukermann he also makes cameos in the film.
The synopsis reads:
“In the absurd, autobiographically inspired dark comedy that boldly reimagines the Joker’s origins, a painfully unfunny aspiring clown (Vera Drew as Harlequin Joker) grapples with her gender identity as she unsuccessfully tries to join to the ranks of the only Gotham City comedy show in the world. where comedy was banned. Joining a ragtag group of rejects and misfits, Joker the Harlequin forms an illegal anti-comedy troupe that puts them on a collision course with the devious caped crusader who controls the city.
It seems really strange! Before the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, Drew received a letter from Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns the film rights Batman, asking her not to show the project publicly. The letter effectively scuppered other planned projections, according to The Hollywood journalist. Drew stated that his use of the Batman The universe and its characters fall within the bounds of fair use, which protects the use of copyrighted material for purposes such as parody and criticism. AS THR noted, the film eventually played at other festivals with no problems on Warner’s part; however, achieving theatrical distribution has always seemed like an uncertain prospect.
Now, the film is finally headed to theaters, opening at the IFC Center in New York City on April 5, 2024. It will then expand to cities like Los Angeles, Austin, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington, and Chicago in the weeks following. You can find the lists of rooms by clicking here.
