Melissa Benoist comments on the choice of Milly Alcock for the role of Supergirl in the DCU

Melissa Benoistwho played Kara Zor-El in The CW’s DC series Supergirlcommented Milly Alcock being cast as Supergirl James GunnDCU. During an interview with ScreenRant, Benoist was asked what he was excited to see in Alcock’s version of Kara in Gunn’s. Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow movie, and she said:

“I think every interpretation of the character is valuable because of what it represents. Supergirl as an entity is iconic for a reason and she has been since the 1950s. I personally think that every iteration of her is valuable for young women to see, and hopefully [with] in every interpretation of her, someone will see themselves in it.

There were a lot of mixed reactions to Alcock’s casting as Supergirl, but Gunn has always had a good eye for casting roles in his films, and obviously felt she was the best choice for the role, and I’m excited. to see how she brings this classic DC character to life.

Supergirl will likely make her DCU debut in Gunn’s Superman, and become the protagonist from there Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow, written by Ana Nogueira. That film will be based on the eight-issue DC miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Tom King loves Alcock’s casting and previously shared his reaction, saying, “She’s Supergirl and she doesn’t give a #%*# about slings and arrows. Perfect cast. I couldn’t be more excited to see Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the world [Bilquis Evely] built, brought to life by this incredible actor. Folly. He started out so small…”

The comic’s synopsis reads: “Kara Zor-El has had some epic adventures over the years, but now finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a little cousin who ended up no longer needing her. What was it all for? Everywhere she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a ferocious mission. Her world has been destroyed and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she will do it herself, no matter what it costs her. Now a Kryptonian, a dog and an angry, heartbroken child set off into space on a journey that will shake them to the core.”
