Trailer for the remaster of the 1995 game STAR WARS: DARK FORCES

The 1995 classic Star Wars video game, Star Wars: Dark Forcehas been remastered and a trailer showing the updated game has been released!

The fully remastered version of the classic first-person action shooter is being developed by NightDive Studios, and players will take on the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector from the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire.

Long before the movie Rogue One, it was Kyle Katarn who originally stole the Death Star plans for the Rebel Alliance. He personally took on the entire Galactic Empire with only a blaster in hand.

Max Waine of Nightdive Studios shared in an interview with StarWars.com: “Kyle Katarn can really do just about anything, and while doing it all, he generally manages to stay very cool and calm. Steal the plans for the Death Star? Yes. Defeat Boba Fett? Yes. Hit the Kell Dragons? Yes. He Can do it. And that’s just in Dark Forces.

Star Wars: Dark Forces is now “featuring a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a wide selection of items and power-ups, and immersive environments to enjoy accompanied by 4K 120 FPS support, trophy and achievement support, and more.”

Wayne goes on to say, “Dark Forces it is very interesting, especially if you approach it with the mentality of his contemporaries. The things that he was able to do for that moment, I wonder if they won’t be lost on people who come there for the first time. You have actual room-by-room environments. In some special cases you have fully 3D models, which is something you wouldn’t see in normal standard first-person shooters until Quake, which happened a year and three months later. The tech feats are truly impressive.”

Speaking about the updated gameplay he said: “With improved gameplay, improved lighting and texture rendering, and support for modern consoles, Nightdive Studios’ work to update the original game has been extensive, but it is not a remake. “

He explained: “We have the original source code of the game. We still have such a strong foundation in the original. [While] we have high resolution versions of things like sprites, textures, cut scenes, all the original material is still there as options… It’s still more or less the same game. We didn’t make any changes to the original levels, for example, which a remake would probably do.”

You can see the original version of the game with the new version in the trailer below! It looks great and it will be fun to revisit this game after all these years!

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
