Universal is teaming up with Skybound Comic for a new comic book miniseries, Universal Monsters: Frankensteinwith writer and artist Michael Walsh. This is the third comic in a Skybound series about Universal Monsters.
The comic will offer a new interpretation Mary Shelley’s iconic gothic horror story and will also include some James Balena’s 1931 film adaptation.
The synopsis for the first issue reads: “In this first issue, Dr. Henry Frankenstein begins his unholy quest to create life by raiding the tomb of a decorated police officer to find the necessary parts, most notably a pair of strong hands. But he doesn’t know that the corpse has a son who mourns his father and that this boy will change Frankenstein’s life forever.
Walsh worked on previously The Return, The Silver Coin, X-Men, Spider-Man, The X-Files, Star Warsand art for Magic: the gathering cards, said in a statement: “The story of Dr. Frankenstein and his poor, misunderstood monster is one of the most recognizable and influential horror stories ever told… It’s also one of my favorites. The original 1931 Universal Pictures film is a continuing inspiration for my art and storytelling, so, as you can imagine, I was honored to be able to play in that sandbox. Trying to tell an original story while staying true to that film was an exciting yet daunting prospect. It was one of the most fun I’ve ever had making comics, and I know that fans of Frankenstein and horror will have a blast experiencing these iconic characters and scenes like never before.”
Universal Monsters: Frankenstein The series follows the comic adaptations of Dracula and The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which will be available next month.
Number 1 of Universal Monsters: Frankenstein the comic will be released by Image Comics on August 28, 2024.
