Steven Spielberg’S Schindler’s List it’s a perfectly crafted film and Liam Neeson he played Oscar Schindler perfectly in the film. I honestly can’t imagine anyone else in that role, but there were many other actors in Hollywood who were trying to get the role.
In an oral history of the film shared on THR, this was revealed Harrison Ford, Kevin CostnerAND Mel Gibson they were circling the project. There was also an earlier version of the project where Sean Connery he was trying to play Schindler.
Neeson said in the interview: “I heard Harrison Ford’s name. Costner’s name. The Australian actor Jack Thompson — I thought, “Oh, yeah, Jack looks a lot like Schindler.” I looked nothing like Schindler. Anyway, he was always in my head, but I didn’t have high hopes.
Spielberg went on to say that many actors would have wanted to play this part: “Many people were interested in playing Schindler, and many of them were movie stars, and to all of them I promised never to reveal anything about their history.” with me, so I’m not saying those names are accurate. I’m saying there were a lot of people, even more than the names you gave me.”
Talent agent Michael Ovitz added: “Mel Gibson’s name came up. He was interested. His agent proposed it. But that wasn’t going to happen. Steven wanted a non-movie star for the part. What a strange thing it would be to see Gibson play Oscar Schindler considering comments he has made in the past.
As for Sean Conneryin 1963, Casablanca co-writer Howard Koch wrote a screenplay based on the story of Leopoldo Page, one of the Jews saved by Schindler. Page pitched his idea for the film to MGM and Connery was approached to star in him, but the film, of course, never took off.
That’s the book Schindler’s List is inspired is based on Leopold Page’s account of what happened.
