Mark Ruffalo says it would be too expensive to make a standalone Hulk movie

Marvel fans have been wondering if Marvel Studios would ever make a standalone film Hulk movie. It’s been talked about for years, especially during the Infinity Saga film series, but at the time Marvel couldn’t do it because Universal Pictures had certain rights to the character. That’s no longer the case, so if Marvel wanted to make a solo Hulk movie, they could. But, Marco Ruffalo he doesn’t think it will happen because it will be too expensive.

During an interview with GQ, the actor was asked what his future looks like for Hulk in the MCU, and he said:

“I would love to do a standalone Hulk, but I don’t think that will ever happen. It would be very expensive if you made a whole movie, that’s why they use Hulk so sparingly. I gave myself a price!

Let’s be honest though, Marvel could make a Hulk movie if they wanted to. Would making a Hulk movie really cost more than $150 million!? I honestly think they could do it for a lot less! It’s not like we haven’t seen other solo Hulk movies made before. I don’t know what Ruffalo is talking about.

The last time we saw Ruffalo as the Hulk was at the end of She-Hulk: Lawyer, where he showed up with his son, Skaar. Many fans believe this is all settled World War Hulk, and that would be a really nice interesting direction to go. One thing we know for sure is that we haven’t seen the last of Hulk.

A few months ago it was reported that Marvel is developing a solo Hulk film and that the character may even appear Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Not long after the rumor began to spread, Marvel asked Ruffalo not to comment on a standalone Hulk film.

Ruffalo also commented on the criticism he received from colleagues regarding joining the MCU in the first place. He said he “often heard from my colleagues” that “giving his best acting years to playing a comic book hero” was not the best move for his career. His response is: “Sometimes I think it’s jealousy, a little because then I see them run away and do it.”

He went on to talk about an actor he met who was considering joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor had some questions for Ruffalo, and one of those questions was, “You know, man, aren’t you worried that no big director is going to want to work with you?”

Ruffalo continued, “I’m really proud of it. I have been to the cinema with films I have made with great directors. I also experienced these Marvel films with an audience and the amount of community and expression…it touched every single emotion. This means something to me. I don’t despise him.”
